The History of the Nintendo DS Lite
The Nintendo DS Lite is the second model in the Nintendo DS line. It is a dual-screen game console
developed by Nintendo, slimmer and more lightweight of the original 2004 Nintendo DS. It was announced
on January 26, 2006 and released in Japan on March 2, 2006. It released later in the United States
on June 11, 2006. Within 2 days of release, more than 136,000 units were sold in the USA. The best-selling
game was Nintendogs, released in 2005. The NDS Lite is the last Nintendo handheld console to have
backwards compatibility with the Game Boy Advance games. It was discontinued on March 31, 2014.
Improvements from the Original NDS
The new screens of the NDS Lite had 4 levels of brightness, with the lowest setting being better than the
standard brightness of the NDS. The microphone was changed from bottom right to the middle, between the
two screens. As mentioned above, the new model was more lightweight and sleeker than the NDS. The stylus
was made thicker and longer. The power button was changed to a power slider, and moved to the side.
